On the 8th October 2015 Clarecastle N.S. was visited by two members of the Irish Defence Forces who presented the students with a copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic 1916. They also presented the school with the Irish flag, the Tricolour.

The Department of Education and Skills arranged for all primary schools to receive a visit by members of the Defence Forces to prepare for a display of the Tricolour by students on Proclamation Day, March 15th, 2016.

Proclamation4It was a moving presentation with heartfelt speeches from Mr Moloney and the members of the Irish Defence Forces explaining to the children the significance of what the men and women of 1916 achieved and how it has shaped our nation’s subsequent evolution.
